SAMSUNG EXPANDS CONTENT PARTNERSHIP WITH NEW TVS FOR U.S. MARKET.

SEOUL, March 17 Asia Pulse - Samsung Electronics Co. (KSE:005930), the world's top TV maker by shipments, said Thursday that it has expanded partnerships with U.S. TV networks for a new lineup of TVs set to launch there.

The company's latest TV models for the U.S. market can stream TV and music shows from HBO and MTV and related information through TV applications, it said in a statement. The shows can be downloaded and installed from Samsung's TV application store.

Samsung raised the portion of smart TVs, which bring the Internet to living rooms and can add new features through applications, to more than 70 per cent of its light-emitting diode (LED) TV models, it said. More than 60 per cent of new TVs are equipped with 3-D capability.

The company offers some 200 applications through its TV application store in the U.S. market.

Samsung has been pushing to replicate the success of Apple Inc.'s App Store in its TV business, partnering with third-party developers and throwing application contests to boost the number of applications.
