Ethiopia OKs departure of its last Jews

JERUSALEM Ethiopia's new government agreed Friday to let Israelfly out 2,600 Jews left behind after an emergency airlift of 14,000to the Jewish state in May.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry said the first group of 600Ethiopian Jews would be in Israel in time for the Jewish new year(Rosh Hashanah) Sept. 9. The others would arrive within three months.

"We are speaking about bringing back the whole of EthiopianJewry. In principle, there won't be any more Jews there," a ForeignMinistry official said.
