Fed: Sexes not talking same language at work

Research has found that differences in the way men and women communicate can affectwork as well as personal relationships.

MARY BARRETT of Griffith University, says the differences often lead to misunderstandingsin the workplace.

Professor BARRETT says research has shown women tend to ask more questions, encourageothers to continue speaking and use the words "you" and "me" more frequently than men.

But men are more likely to interrupt, dispute and challenge ideas.

Professor BARRETT says women typically have a more inclusive style of conversation

-- they might seem to pause and hesitate more because they aim to get agreement.

She says while it's not about saying women know ho to communicate and men do not, bothsexes should be aware of their different communication styles.
