Qld: Qld premier promises close watch on laws
BRISBANE, Jan 20 AAP - Premier Peter Beattie today promised that if new laws coveringthe assessment of violent criminals in Queensland did not work they would be changed again.
The laws are due to come into effect in February and Mr Beattie said their implementationwould be closely watched following the escape of a schizophrenic killer from a Brisbanemental hospital on Friday.
The man, who killed his father with a cane knife, escaped from the Wolston Park psychiatrichospital only days after being granted ground leave, which meant he could roam the hospitalgardens.
